Lifestyle Photography

So how did I get to this point in my career? People often ask if I went to school. I smile and say, Yes, I did! Just not in photography! I have a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Music. Nearly 8 years of intense education! I have to give myself credit for that! So where does the photography training come in?

While in Graduate School, I took up photography to give myself a break from the intensity and personal frustrations of my program. I had been shooting about a year on my own, when I met Dustin Fife, a professional photographer who was looking for a piano teacher! After meeting each other we discovered that we could certainly benefit from each others skills! So, I taught Dustin weekly piano lessons and in exchange I got weekly private camera lessons from a fabulous teacher! For Eight Months! This was the perfect learning opportunity for me! In January 2008 I joined with Ron Adair, a complete photography genius. I spent three months working with him as his secretary/part-time image editor/knowledge sponge! Its Ron who designed my website and blog, and who has become a great critic for my work! If he gives me a compliment then I know Ive accomplished something! I really owe so much to Dustin and Ron! Thanks guys

I consider myself a Lifestyle Photographer. I aim to create work that is real, natural, and artistic. I take much inspiration from lifestyle magazines and seek to have my work hosting a flavor of that editorial magazine feel. Although I love candid shots above all others, many of my candid shots are actually posed! I believe a good photographer not only captures those fleeting moments, but has the ability to create them as well. I give all my subjects A LOT of posing direction. You are never left feeling unnatural or awkward. We work quickly, and create a variety of images that are both editorial/lifestyle in feel, as well as artistic, and a few traditional ones for good measure.
